Oswald Kaduk was "one of the cruellest, brutal and vulgar SS men in the concentration camp Auschwitz" according to the judgement of the first Frankfurt Auschwitz trial of 1965. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and participating in the murder and was released in 1989. During his stay in Schwalmstadt prison in 1978, he gave an interview to the filmmaker Ebbo Demant on his time in Auschwitz, which was published in the book Auschwitz - 'Direkt von der Rampe' (extracts are available online in Der Spiegel, issue of 29 January 1979). Parts of the interview were also aired in two German TV documentaries from 1979 and 1999.
