More Hitler Extermination Statements: 3.2.42 and 30.8.42

From his Table Talk:

3.2.42:
So the Jew smacks his thighs to see how his diabolic stratagem has succeeded. He bears in mind that if his victims suddenly became aware of these things, all Jews would be exterminated. But, this time, the Jews will disappear from Europe.
30.8.42:
It is here in Russia that Communism shows its true face. We must undertake a campaign of cleaning-up, square metre by square metre, and this will compel us to have recourse to summary justice. The struggle with the terrorists will be savage warfare in the real sense. In Estonia and Latvia these bands have all but ceased to be active ; but until Jewry, which is the bandits' Intelligence Service, is exterminated, we shall not have accomplished our task.

    1. Some of it is, but it's mostly all of his table talk that christans quote to call him a pagan are questionable... Most of the issues of table talk is we have only eye witnesses to the talk and not transcript... And human memory conflates rather easily... That's why some eyes witnesses need to be taken with a grain of salt.

But we have enough of hurlers speeches to say he was planning to kill the Jews if a world war started.

  3. exactly on this site(in russian) they say that these Table Talks is forgerie http://hedrook.vho.org/library/ost.htm

google translate "It is also widely known so-called "Hitler Diaries", first published in the magazine "Stern" and supposedly written by Hitler personally. These diaries were rebuked as a fake in 1983. The chemical analysis of the paper in its structure was discovered bleach, which began to be used in paper production only since 1955. Despite the fact that no sane historian does not use these dubious documents as arguments in scientific debates, citations are often slip into anti-fascist literature. It is because of this literature and myth has appeared on the theory of racial inferiority of the Slavs in the policies of the Third Reich."

  4. The "Hitler Diaries" were a forgery by one Konrad Kujau.

Hitler’s Table Talk, however, has nothing to do with the "Hitler Diaries".

  5. sorry, i've mistaken. here it is:

""Hitler's Table Talk" by Henry Picker were first published in West Germany in 1951. Zero value "work" gives that the note had been "finalized" by Henry Picker after the war, when he was in British captivity. It is possible that the Picker's notes was entirely made up after the war, and certainly no doubts that their "completion" has been carried out on the orders of British intelligence. In view of this serious historians prefer to work without the aid of this "table talks". But publicists with great pleasure quoting "revelations" about Hitler, for example, that it is necessary to plant nettles Ukraine ..."

do you have something about these notes?

  6. "It is possible that the Picker's notes was entirely made up after the war, and certainly no doubts that their "completion" has been carried out on the orders of British intelligence."

Hollow speculation with nothing to back it up. It is also possible that the author of the above lines fell off his bed last night and broke his nose, but that doesn't mean it happened.

"In view of this serious historians prefer to work without the aid of this "table talks"."

Not that I know. The "Table Talk" has a preface by H.R. Trevor-Roper, and it is quoted in Alan Bullock's parallel biography of Hitler and Stalin.

  7. If you want to have a good picture of the (complex) editorial story for those Hitler quotes, go to Richard C. Carrier, « Hitler’s Table Talk - Troubling Finds », German Studies Review, october 2003, vol. 26, no. 3. It shows that, Werner Jochmann's edition (Adolf Hitler, Monologe im Führerhauptquartier 1941-1944, Werner Jochmann (ed), Hambourg, 1980) CAN be trusted absolutely, as enry Picker's (Picker, Hitlers Tischgespräche im Führerhauptquartier, Propyläen Verlag, 2003, first edition 1951), BUT that the Trevor Roper pefaced edition (Hitler’s Table Talk, preface by H. R Trevor-Roper, London, Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 1953, many editions since) should not be used: it was translated from a french edition (and not from german!) edited by the swiss pro-nazi mogul François Genoud. It contains problematic translations (Irving was accused by Evans of falsifying one Hitler quote by mistranslating it when in fact Irving had only used the already falsified Genoud translation, which of course would make Hitler appear less evil...) and maybe some non pristine quotes (mainly about religious subjects). My take: always check in the Jochmann and Picker's editions. If it's there, it's OK and one should translate directly from those editions or use a translation that was made from them. Don't use a quote from a Trevo-Roper prefaced edition or double check with the german original versions (Jochmann and/or Picker).

  8. Indeed the translation prefaced by Trevor-Roper seems to be somewhat Führer-friendly.

Case in point, the following statement on the evening of 17 October 1941:
"We shan't settle in the Russian towns, and we'll let them fall to pieces without intervening."

The German text of this statement is rendered as follows by Christian Gerlach (Kalkulierte Morde, p. 801):
"In die russischen Städte gehen wir nicht hinein. Sie müssen vollständig ersterben."

    My translation:
"Into the Russian cities we shall not go. They must die away completely. "

Sounds a bit harsher, doesn't it?

  9. Bravo Roberto, you spotted another one! By the way, the Hitler/Evans/Irving/Genoud quote I was refering is from 25 october 1941, Hitler said « Es ist gut, wenn uns der Schrecken vorangeht, daß wir das Judentum ausrotten », correctly translated by Christopher Browning (The Origins of the Final Solution. The Evolution of Nazi Jewish Policiy, September 1939-March 1942, University of Nebraska Press, Yad Vashem, 2004, p. 370) as « It is good when the terror precedes us that we are exterminating the Jew ». I'll let people look up the Trevor-Ropper version translated from the falsified french Genoud version for the fun (Irving did not use it but translated himself directly from the falsified french version). Oh, and it Henry (I forgot the H) Picker...

  10. Trevor Roper's version of 25.10.41: "It's not a bad idea, by the way, that public rumour attributes to us a plan to exterminate the Jews. Terror is a salutary thing."

  11. Saul Friedländer's "Years of Extermination" uses this quote from 21.10.41, sourced to the German edition but with the same translation as Tevor-Roper's:

"By exterminating this pest, we shall do humanity a service of which our soldiers can have no idea."

  12. As pointed out, the translation published by T-R (but made by some other people) is very unreliable, falsified at times, so should never be used without checking the original text.
