If 'Vernichtung' doesn't mean 'extermination'...

Author: Nicholas Terry
...then why does intellectual midget Jürgen Graf say that Raul Hilberg's magnum opus should not be called Die Vernichtung europäischer Juden ('The Destruction of European Jews') but rather Die Verfolgung europäischer Juden ('The Persecution of European Jews')?

No no! You misunderstand, it is a fundamental rule of the German language that 'Vernichtung' never, ever means "extermination" (whatever that means) in connection with the Holocaust until after that war. You don't know if I actually speak German, but if I say it authoritatively enough you might take my word for it!
